JONATHAN GOVE LEAVITT was born 21 Mar 1830, the son of William and Ruth (Gove) Leavitt. He died on 12 Jan 1926 in Pembroke, NH [NH Death rec]. He is buried in Leavitt Cemetery, Chichester, NH
He married on 18 Oct 1856 to SARAH HALE BRICKETT, the daughter of Abbott Brickett. She was born 7 Mar 1833 and died on 9 Apr 1907. She is buried in Leavitt Cemetery, Chichester, NH.
While he lived in Chichester, he made hand sewed shoes, but later moved to Acton, MA and then to Lynn, MA, where he worked at Spinney Shoe Co. He moved back to NH by 1890, when he is seen in the Veteran Schedule for Northwood. The History of Northwood (pg 561) says he was a graduate of Poughkeepsie Commercial College and had taught briefly at Coe's Academy.
He was a member of the W K Cobb Post 27, GAR of Pittsfield, NH.
