BENNING LEAVITT was born on 23 Aug 1843 in Chicopee, MA, the son of Daniel and Ruth J (Ball) Leavitt. He died in Holyoke, MA on 28 Feb 1903, and was buried in Chicopee [MA Death Rec].
He married DELIA (O'NEILL) HARE, the daughter of Francis and Jane O'Neill, on 27 May 1879, in Springfield, MA [MA Marr Rec]. She was born in Ireland ca Jan 1850 [1900 census], and died on 8 Aug 1928 [Pension Payment Card] in Brookline [MA Death Index]. She had been previously married to Patrick Hare, and had children Frank W and Minnie E with him.
Benning worked as a coachman in Springfield, MA before moving to Holyoke, MA in 1890, where he ran a boarding stable.
He and Delia had three children, all born in Springfield, MA:
i. Stillborn male, b/d. 3 July 1880
ii. RUTH JEANETTE LEAVITT, b. 19 July 1883; d. in Marblehead, MA on 23 Oct 1956 [Boston Traveler, 10/24/56]. Buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Chicopee.
iii. ANNA CHARLOTTE LEAVITT, b. 10 May 1886; d. unk. She married JOSEPH POPE on 10 July 1917 in Holyoke [MA Marr Rec]. She was living in Bronxville, NY in 1956.

The ancestry of Benning can be found in the book LEAVITT Descendants of Thomas Leavitt, the Immigrant 1616-1696, and Isabella Bland, on pg 167, and is as follows: Benning (Daniel, Benning, Ebenezer, Benjamin, John, Moses, Hezron, Thomas). His grandfather Benning was a veteran of the War of 1812, and his Great-Great Grandfather Benjamin had served during the Revolution.
